Vin et Livres Premier Book Club Oct 6, 2015

Vin et Livres Premier Book Club Oct 6, 2015

A-Smartbout fifteen years ago, Ellexir was born, the All Women’s Wine and Cheese Book Club. With founding chapters in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, ladies of Ellexir took meetings a step beyond the concept of a normal book club. Gatherings became sacred as Ellexir became the talk of the town. We all anticipated our monthly meetings, many ladies preparing goodies far beyond the required block of cheese. We talked about subject books, sometimes debating to what turned into heated, passionate discussions. We covered brief explanations of wine provinces and complimented our generous chefs for the goodies that they prepared with love. An undercurrent of bonding goes without saying and meetings often exceeded the 2-hour allotment.

Now, Ellexir has evolved into Vin et Livres of Washington, D.C. and is bursting with popularity. Vin et Livres enjoys monthly evening Book Club Meetings, hip Socials and Jazz Brunch Book Salon.

Book Club Meeting Syllabus

7pm – 7:30pm – open meet and greet, name tags (to be provided for each to write their name), sipping of wines and nibbling of cheeses.
7:40pm – 8:00pm – Brief 30-second introduction of each lady – name, location, profession, interests
8:00pm – 8:45pm – Book discussion
8:45pm – 9:00pm – mingling and adieu

Jazz Brunch Book Salon captures Vin et Livres members who would like to attend book club in a morning fresh environment. Book Salon falls on the third Sunday of every month and gathers around brunch, light spirits and jazz music to discuss the same monthly read as evening Book Club. It is a potluck event in which each attendant brings a breakfast item(s) and/or beverages or spirits. Brunch takes place in the privacy of a member’s home. Members who attend evening Book Club are most welcomed to attend Book Salon and vice versa. If you are a member and wish to attend, please submit your  breakfast item below. If you are not yet a VL member, go to the JOIN page and submit your request.

Questions

VL was founded with the intention of preserving an intimate ‘let your hair down’ kind of environment where we ladies can let it all go. On that premise, the group is not open to men for incorporating members of the opposite sex would totally change that dynamic.
While there will certainly be times when some of us cannot complete the subject read, it is a still book club. As much socializing as we enjoy, there will always be book discussions in which all members are encouraged to participate.
There are many book clubs that feature a variety of themes as unique as ours. There will be discussion of the wine regions as well as featured guests that include sommeliers. It is important that you as a member feel very comfortable in such an environment.
Love you for asking! In the future, we may consider a group playtime for our children separate from and during the book club. However, children are not permitted into the book club (mine included!) because this is fun for us ladies only. If you need assistance with a babysitter, please let me know. I may be able to help.
We have a complimentary guest parking garage. As the meetings approach, stay tuned for an email with directions.
During the last segment of a meeting, the group will determine by majority the next read according to standards set forth.
Soon, the website will post a relaxed agenda, an outline of what members can expect at each meeting.
Besides the obvious (a bottle of the themed wine, cheese, your book), feel free to bring a baguette, crackers and/or accompaniments. You may bring your cheese adorned with veggies and other delectable wonders on a platter if you like though platters and the like will be provided. Some ladies like to prepare, bake or cook special morsels. It’s all good!
